The Watchmen of Bedford County, a fellowship of Christian patriots who meet weekly, will host the annual commemoration of the signing of our Constitution, from 10-11 am on Thursday, 17 September 2026 at the Gazebo in Bedford Square. At this year’s celebration of the 239th anniversary of our Constitution, we will be joined once again by members of the Bedford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), as well as several local area students, assisting in the commemoration.
The US Constitution, signed by our Founders in Philadelphia, 17 September 1787, is a vital part of our heritage as Americans. Unfortunately, few Americans have ever read it, and even fewer understand its vital importance to our future.
We who have sworn to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, firmly believe that all Americans should read and understand our Constitution as the bedrock foundation of our Republic and of our American exceptionalism. Our Founders were fallible men like us, but the noble ideals they articulated were both inspirational and aspirational. Their failure – and ours – to consistently live up to those high ideals does not invalidate them. Without understanding our history, and failing to respect and defend our Constitution, future generations will lose this great inherited treasure: free men and women living as one Nation under God, according to our conscience, under law, rather than under the dictates of elitist rulers.
We will read the text of this amazing document, gratefully thank the Lord for granting us the blessings of this rich heritage, pray that the Lord will restore His influence through all our elected officials and citizens, and seek renewed gratitude and respect for our God-given rights, equal justice under the law, and sanctity of every human life.
Everyone is invited to attend and celebrate with us. Bring your lawn chairs!
